Think of a completely full and nearly over flowing 3 ring album. As the album fills its density increases and pages crowd each other where they insert into the binder. Once full - the pages have a tendency to round over when your album is open. They dont lie flat with the pages entirely viewable anymore. A narrow strip of your beautiful layout is hidden near those crowded binder rings. One might have to insert a hand in there and forcibly push layout pages aside to see the very edge of your layouts. The added protector sheet 1/2 inch page width in these protectors enables your entire page to remain viewable even when the album is chuff full. In effect that 1/2 inch margin of protector dead space near the binder rings lifts the decorated page out of the valley and into the view. Sorry for length of explanation but I was trying to help readers "see" its purpose with words.
