I have used my sizzix eclipse2 twice now, and am having fun. I did upgrade the software that came with it right away. I really wanted the ability to design my own shapes and utilize svgs off the internet. Which eCal lite dose not do. I was not impressed with that, but I have to say I am with the work thus far. Cutting detail is far superior to my circuit.
The ability to see the placement saves paper. Custom sizing and workong with fonts I have on my computer is exciting. I recommend buying a better second mat though right away. The one that came with mine did not stay sticky very long, and it was bent from being in the box.
Despite the couple negatives I really like the machine a lot.
I am absolutely blown away by this machine! It cuts so fast and precise and the cut-outs are clean. If I had owned this machine sooner then I would not have spent money on other machines. So thankful I tried it and would highly recommend to anyone!!
After my eclips quit cutting for me I ordered the eclips 2 to replace it. Taking some getting use to after having the original eclips. Cuts very well, loads and unloads fast, overall I'm satisfied with it so far.
I am a paper crafting novice so was researching die cutters when my friend highly recommended the Sizzix eclips2. I gathered a little more information then decided to place my order. It arrived 48 hours later and I couldn't be happier with it! It is so easy to operate, I can't believe it. The cuts are clean and the design possibilities endless. This has the makings of an addiction...
I owned the first version of the eclips when it still had a cartridge system. I never used the cartridges but I loved the software that came with it (sold separately). This machine lets you create fun and creative projects. I specifically use 3D svg files from 3rd party sites. Since I'm a math teacher this machine is also pretty handy for my classroom. The eclips2 works with the older software so I didn't have to upgrade. The only downside for me is that the old machine had a handle that made it easy to transport. The new machine has no such handle so I have to be careful when taking it to school and home. Overall I really like it.
This is my second Sizzix Eclips. I really like how fast it cuts and how it can cut very intricate and detailed shapes. I am not crazy about the mat that came along with it. It is not very sticky and the hanger cut out at the top of the mat has been eliminated so I just punched a hole in it myself. I store my mats hanging on a hook so they are easy to find. All in all an amazing, easy to operate machine!
Loved my original eClips but after 3 years and thousands of cuts she finally called it quits. Within minutes I had ordered the eClips2 and have made several projects since receiving it less than a week ago. Here are my thoughts in pros and cons.
Pro:
-It's much quieter and faster than the original eClips.
-It's heavier and seems to be a bit sturdier.
-It seems to make even more intricate cuts cleaner (if that's even possible but it is)
-It uses the same eCal 2 interface that I've come to love over the past many months.
Con:
-You have to load the mats from the computer software, no button on machine to load and unload.
-There is no support "tray" for the mat to rest on as it feeds in and out of the machine. I've resorted to placing a small basket that is the same height as the paper feed to keep my mat from bending.
-There is no cancel button in the eCal software (I've done the latest upgrade download) if you decide not to make the cut after beginning the process.
It's substantially wider and it doesn't fit in the neat little space that I had my other eClips tucked away in.
So far I like the results with the new cutter and I'm sure that once I've used it for a while I won't give it up. Despite it's cons it still way outshines other cutters that I've used (Cricut, Silhouette, Brother) and I would recommend it. Did not get the Bluetooth version because I'm old fashioned and still feel like a direct connection is the surest. I did note that when I unpacked it there is a difference in the one that I have and the one that I watched being unpacked in a YouTube video. The roller bar is stationary and it did not have the release clamps on either side with the packing holding it in place. Don't know if that was an older version or a new version but my instructions for unpacking did show the clamps.
All in all, unless something goes horribly wrong, this is the cutter for me. Thanks for taking the time to read...now I'm gonna go cut something! ;-)
My original E-Clips machine died recently. As much as I loved it, I thought I'd investigate all e cutters since things have changed since I bought mine. After much research, I decided to stick with the E-Clips so I purchased the E-Clips 2, yay! It won out in comparisons with all the top machines. It cuts way faster than competitors, it quieter and VERY easy to learn to use if you are new. Other machines require many more steps to get the same results as the E-Clips with just a click. The only negative I can see is the E-Clips 2 is a bit wider (with good reason...in the future it will accept a wider cutting matt) and does not have a handle. This is no big deal for me but if you go to crops, you'll have to have a carrying case and it would be a bit heavy to travel around with. I highly recommend the E-Clips 2. I previously owned a Cricut but like the E-Clips better.
I had a hard time with the set up of the machine Also I keep having to stop cutting because the paper keeps moving on the mat broke two needles just trying to set up the machine.
This product comes with very little instruction, and cuts differently depending on the location within the mat. It is more fuss than it is worth. Papers and cards tend to rip rather than cut neatly, despite much fussing around with settings.
