Excellent size for applique. Design measures 4 1/4 H x 4 3/4 W. Perfect, clean, symmetrical cut. For applique: apply paper-backed fusible web to a 5" fabric scrap following manufacturer's instructions. Let cool. Cut shape. Iron shape onto project. Satin stitch around the edge.
Also fun to cut out applique from a swatch of strip-pieced fabric (sew strips of scrap fabric right sides together across a 5" square of muslin, press, cool, cut out the shape and then follow regular applique method).
Also works great on cardstock....fun way to create hand-made valentines or give someone a "heart attack" by covering their car, dorm room, or cubicle with heart cut-outs.
