Perfect fabric cut for applique!
As always, Sizzix Bigz dies do not disappoint. Excellent, clean fabric cut. This die makes a nice swag border for applique on traditional and modern quilt designs. It spans an 8 1/2" unfinished block. Is also pretty with flower appliques placed in between the points of two swags. Applique techniques that work well with this shape: 1) Paper-backed fusible web: Iron web to back of fabric following manufacturer's instructions. Allow to cool. Cut shape then remove paper backing and iron shape onto project. Finish the edges satin stitch. 2) One-sided fusible interfacing: For die sandwich, alternate fabric and interfacing with bumpy/glue side of interfacing facing the right side of the fabric (do not iron interfacing yet!!). Cut shapes. Sew one fabric piece and one interfacing piece together (right side of fabric to glue side of facing) with scant 1/4" seam. Trim corners close to seam and rest of seam 1/8". In the center of the shape, gently puff out the interfacing from the fabric and cut a slit in the interfacing...be careful not to cut the fabric. Carefully turn the fabric inside out, using a point turner to carefully get the points turned. Iron design on to project and slip stitch design in place.
