    • Abandoned by Spellbinders

I agree with the first Reviewer, this is a very good machine. Although it appears small, but I was surprised at how many of my dies it can handle. The reason I would not recommend it to others is because it appears Spellbinders has abandoned any support or availability of replacement plates. Spellbinders response to my inquiries is that the machine has been discontinued. Yes, the cutting plate will last for quite awhile, but at some point a replacement will be needed. Just for information, I am having the same difficulty finding replacement plates for the Spellbinders Sapphire machine. Accessories for the Grand Calibur are still readily available, but I can't help but wonder about Spellbinders long-term support for the Platinum.

    • Giant results out of a tiny machine!

I bought this machine because I don't have room to put up a table for a large die cutting machine. (I can literally hold this machine on my lap, wind the crank, and end up with wonderful die cuts and embossed cardstock!) It works with almost all of my dies. It's great to have an end product that looks just as good as if I had used a full-sized machine on it! I really really like this machine and like the results it gives me when making greeting cards.

There is only one drawback, I am having a hard time finding a new "cutting
plate" for this machine. I use it all the time so I'm hoping to find one soon.

      • It is 41/2" across and 3/4" high. I have one of these and I love it. I can use any of my dies in it no problem. I just ordered a second one because it is discontinued and I want to be sure I have back up! Haha By: joan schultz (05-Jan-17) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I don't own a die cutting machine yet. Can this Spellbinders Artisan X-plorer machine use die cuts from other sources, eg the circle die that has a feather on it? I have some brass dies (old) that I'd like to use, have versatile is this machine? If its not made anymore, does anyone think that the parts could be fabricated to keep it 'going' a little longer? -my husband is a machinist. Also, I'm thinking of using this machine for crafting in therapy groups, so not a 'commercial' production enterprise. I like the portability. How much 'use' would I get out of it, knowing the manufacturer may not support it any longer? The price seems right, but if its too good to be true, I'd rather buy a higher end product.   By: MTShepherdess (15-Sep-16) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • Hi, this Spellbinders machine was intended for use with mixed media and jewelry, so the opening is limited in what size dies it will take. my suggestion, since you mentioned you will be using it regularly, would be to take a look at the Platinum 6 machine from Spellbinders (sold on SBC also) or their original Platinum machine, which you can use all dies (including steel rule). Here is a link to a compatibility chart found on Spellbinders website: http://www.spellbinderspaperarts.com/die-compatibility-guide/

hope that helps! By: Janna L (19-Sep-16) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!
