Ranger Ink - Dina Wakley Media - Heavy Body Acrylic Paint

I absolutely LOVE these paints. They are heavy bodied...which means heavy pigment with less water added. So it is great for using on Bible journalling...they don't bleed through on the other side of pages if applied in a thin layer...even if the page hasn't been prepped ahead of time. They come in a wide variety of colors and are a good price point compared to other artist grade paints. They really are a fantastic product...so I bought every color!

Questions & Answers
  • I have to cover a 5x7 chipboard cover (front and back covers) with white acrylic paint for a mini album. The recommended coverage is 2 coats. The chipboard is kraft (brown) in color. To play it safe, I'll probably add a third coat. I'm going to use the product above. My question is how many 2 oz tubes should I purchase to ensure that I have enough paint to cover the inside and outside of both covers, with some left over? I've read I should mix the paint with a gel medium. Does anyone recommend this procedure? It would stretch the coverage of the paint. I've never done this before so I can't predict whether diluting the paint will just require more coats of paint. So my questions are at least four: (1) How many 2 oz tubes should I buy (keeping in mind I'm painting in white which will require more to cover the album covers and (2) should I dilute the paint with gesso to stretch the paint to make it last longer? Also should I use a foam brush or a regular artist brush of what size? I'd prefer a brush. Thanks for your help. (3) I just thought of another question(s). What proportion of gesso to paint do I use? 1:1 or some other proportion? (4) There's also a regular matte gesso vs. a soft matte gesso. which is preferred? I think those are all the questions I can think of now but I may have others. Thanks for your patience.

    • Buy 1 tube of Dina Wakley's white gesso and one tube of the white acrylic and use a stiff, wide brush. I really like Dina's new brushes. I bought the package of all her brushes. You will be amazed how far the paint will go and the quality of the paint. Always use gesso under her paints. That should cover all the 5x7 album covers and give you a great base to work on. I have not used her gel medium, but it should n't dilute the white, just extend the working time. By: Christine Mansell (30-Jul-14) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you!
