I have to cover a 5x7 chipboard cover (front and back covers) with white acrylic paint for a mini album. The recommended coverage is 2 coats. The chipboard is kraft (brown) in color. To play it safe, I'll probably add a third coat. I'm going to use the product above. My question is how many 2 oz tubes should I purchase to ensure that I have enough paint to cover the inside and outside of both covers, with some left over? I've read I should mix the paint with a gel medium. Does anyone recommend this procedure? It would stretch the coverage of the paint. I've never done this before so I can't predict whether diluting the paint will just require more coats of paint. So my questions are at least four: (1) How many 2 oz tubes should I buy (keeping in mind I'm painting in white which will require more to cover the album covers and (2) should I dilute the paint with gesso to stretch the paint to make it last longer? Also should I use a foam brush or a regular artist brush of what size? I'd prefer a brush. Thanks for your help. (3) I just thought of another question(s). What proportion of gesso to paint do I use? 1:1 or some other proportion? (4) There's also a regular matte gesso vs. a soft matte gesso. which is preferred? I think those are all the questions I can think of now but I may have others. Thanks for your patience.
