  • A great reference book

I waited a few years before buying "A Compendium of Curiosities" because I had read reviews saying this book was 1/2 advertising. My local J's has finally started selling Tim Holtz stuff including this book. And so I was finally, (3 years after the book was released), able to see the book in person and look through it before buying it. I bought it yesterday, with a coupon, so I got it for about $15. Not bad. The first 30 pages are more of an overview of the products and tools used. I don't mind this because I think the photos are inspiring and I love looking at them and seeing the different ways his little doo dads can be used. Then there are tutorials for 35 different techniques! I think that makes this book worth the money right there. Well not full price (get it on sale if you can). Thirty-five techniques, each on one page, described in six clear, concise, easy-to-understand steps. With pictures of each step. Once I sat down yesterday afternoon to immediately start reading the book after buying it, I couldn't put the book down! I LOVE this book! It is so inspiring! I will get much more use from my stash of Tim Holtz goodies now that this book has shown me all the cool things that I can do with them. Yes, I read Tim's blog and watch the videos that probably have shown these techniques somewhere along the way before, but it's so nice to have these instructions right at my fingertips in my scrap room without having to do a search on the internet. That way I can start or continue my crafting without being distracted or wasting time on the computer. The book is nicely made with a hard cover and spiral binding inside so it lays nice and flat. It's a nice size too, so it doesn't take up much room on your crafting table.

I'm definitely getting book 2 now. Can't wait....

    Worth every penny!

I heard the disappointed reviews and bought it anyway.... and I read it cover to cover and it's a beautiful genius of inspiration! If you scan the pictures, you may think you've seen it all before, and probably have.. but did you TRY IT?? Probably not. I intent=d to soak up every technique this book has to offer and am grateful for being introduced to all the cool bits and pieces of "product" that is not only advertised but shown in action with tips and techniques on how to get the most of it.

  • Scrapbook like a Celebrity!

Tim Holtz covers everything he's famous for in this one-of-a-kind idea book. The first 30 pages include detailed information about each of Tim's products from Ornate Plates and Metal Embellishments to Gears and Spinners to Ball Chain and Fragments. The last 40 pages are step-by-step tutorials showcasing many of the techniques that you've grown to love from Tim, but might to too afraid to try. Not anymore! With is guidance, the amazing techniques in this book come to life instantly and you'll want to spend an entire weekend testing them out on your tags and pages.

Distress Stickles, Alcohol Inks, and Distress Powders are no longer imtimidating after this read-through, but rather intriguing. Warning: People may mistake you for Tim himself... so beware the papparazzi!

    Great book

At first I thought I'd paid 25 bucks for an ad for Tim's products but then when I got to the tutorials I was thrilled. The instructions are simple and well illustrated. Love the distressed grungy feel of the book and can't wait to try some of the techniques. I've already bought some of his products.
Very cool compendium. When I first held it, I thought it was pricey at first for the size of it but I think it may well be worth it for all the wonderful curiosities therein.

  • So inspiring!!!

I LOVE this book!! I ordered it and it just arrived today and I immediately ripped the envelope open and started looking through it. I haven't really done an in-depth reading of it yet, but from what I have seen, it's definitely going to be a huge help for me. I love that the book is bound in a way to lay flat. I also love that it has a lined, blank page at the end of the book to write your own notes as well. I really love this book and highly recommend it!

    Good Book

I really liked the book because it showed me the products and how to use them. The how to is to the point and the pictures that go along with them are clear and easy to follow. I love using new things(slow the become a Tim Holtz's fan but I am there now). I live outside a large city but papercrafting is not big here and stores for supplies very weak on Tim Holtz's goodies. So I need to know what things do before I order online.

  • Must buy for any TH fan

If you've ever looked at Tim Holtz's projects and been in awe, or wondered how he made such cool looking stuff, then this book is for you. This book has illustrated, step-by-step instructions for every product Tim Holtz has made. It's like his 12 tags of Christmas, but in a portable form. Plus it's wire bound so it lays flat - no needing to keep pushing pages back down when your hands are all inked up!!

    Compendium of Curiosities

Really I bought it because the name of the book was so cool. "Compendium" don't hear that every day...and now that I have it . Whew , I am totally blown away! It is most excellant!!.. It gives such lovely ideas in inking, embossing, everything you wanted to know(even if you didn't know you needed to know it) Brilliant!!! I love it. Thanks, Tim ( now if only I can keep my boys(crafters 22&24 yrs.) From making it disappear, B. Smith

  • Tim Holtz New Book

I love Tim Holtz anyway, but this book is awesome! It is not really a project book but it is more of an idea book. It gives you all the products & exactly how to use them, with some ideas, but it gives you so much room to play & expand on his ideas. I like to get creative & I don't like books that tell you exactly how to just make a project step by step. I so love this book!
