The plates on mine fit together perfect, and so far I don't have, or found any flaws. I do have a multi outlet mounted on the wall so that I can easily unplug things which helps a lot because there is not an off/on switch.
As for the pressing...well it took all the folds out of the ribbons I've used so far and no scorching the ribbon which is a plus. Just watch out for the ribbons that have screen prints on them, the print will melt off or smear.
I was so excited to find this ribbon iron. I often save ribbons from presents I receive and until finding the ribbon iron had to use my hair straightener/flat iron. It worked well, but then I was always having to go retrieve it for styling my hair. The Ribbon Iron works great! Every crafter needs one of these. I do wish it had an on/off button. That would be nice.
When I received this tool I was surprised because I thought from the pictures that it would be smaller than it is. It's not a problem though. I really like how this iron works (pressing both sides of the ribbon at the same time) and I too plug it in to a power strip so I can turn it off with a button instead of having to unplug it.

This little iron is great! I just used it to straighten out some ric rac without have to get out the big iron and board and it did the job in one try... now I can stop not using wrinkled ribbon because I don't feel like getting out the iron!
This is such a great idea and tool to own!! I have so many ribbons that have creases in them and this little tool is perfect for that!!! It's handy, just the right size and does the job great!!!
