I had to get these to try my hand at creating my own bling flourishes & things and the only thing I didnt have were the basic colors.
This is great because they come in an assortment of sizes to do that. One thing though there are some that are the size of a pin head and yes probably when the tool they sell to pick them up will be needed if you can't improvise or pick them up with ya nubz or acrylic nails on!
You really do need the tool to remove the gems from the compact unless you are extremely nimble-fingered, but the gems are great for adding pizzazz without thickness!
