How to construct a layout using this floor plan:

1. Create background by mounting patterned paper on cardstock, leaving a ¼ inch border around the entire edge. Using a sewing machine*, zigzag stitch around the edge of the patterned paper.

2. Using a different patterned paper, create a vertical border by mounting it on cardstock, inking the edges**, and adhering it to the background approximately ¾ inch from the left side.

3. Mount your focal point photo on two sheets of coordinating cardstock, straight stitching around the outer edge of your photograph. Mount again on patterned paper, leaving approximately a ½ inch border. Using the same two coordinating cardstock colors (with inked edges), mount the photograph again, this time using a zigzag stitch to finish the edges.

4. Using a 1/8 inch hole-punch, punch two holes side by side (horizontally), down the entire length of one side of your photograph. Lace fibers and ribbons through the holes and tie in knots.

5. Create a double matted tag† in coordinating cardstock colors, using a tag template. Ink mat edges. Straight stitch the border of the tag, approximately 1/8 inch in from the inner mat edge. Add a small rectangular piece of cardstock to the top of the tag and straight stitch.

6. Using a 1/3-inch punch, create a hole in the tag. Fasten a rivet into the hole, flat side down. Tie a variety of fiber and ribbon through the rivet. Write journaling on the tag, and slide it into the hidden compartment; allowing the top part of the tag to stick out. To insure that the tag slips in and out of the concealed compartment, apply adhesive only to the left, top and bottom edges (on the backside) of the focal point photo mat.

7. Double mount three secondary photographs on coordinating cardstock and ink the edges. On the far left photo, using the 1/3 inch punch, make two holes along the left edge of the photo. Fasten a rivet into each hole, flat side down. For the center photo, fold four photo corners††, textured side out. Adhere the photo corners to the center photo. Straight stitch photo corners, centering the stitch between the photo and the edge of the corner. On the far right photo, using the 1/3 inch punch, make three holes along the right edge of the photo. Fasten rivets into each hole, flat side up.

8. Create two single matted tags† in coordinating cardstock colors using a tag template (one square and one round). Ink mat edges. Straight stitch the border of the tags approximately 1/8 inch in from the inner mat edges. Add a small rectangular piece of cardstock to the top of the square tag and straight stitch. Using a 1/3 inch punch, create holes in the tags. On the square tag, fasten a rivet flat side down. On the round tag, fasten a rivet flat side up.

9. Cut strips of cardstock for the rest of the title, measuring how long each needs to be based on the title you choose.

10. Using rub-ons, apply uppercase letters to the tags and lowercase letters to the strips to complete the title.

Tips:

*Hand stitching with regular thread or embroidery floss can be substituted for the sewing machine, or the stitching can be omitted completely.

**Ink Mat Edges: Holding each mat in your dominant hand and an ink pad in your other, gently swipe the ink pad (in a downward motion) over the paper edges.

† Tags come pre-made in Chatterbox Memory Building Kits.

†† Photo Corners: Cut a 5/8" strip of cardstock, placing the strip vertically in front of you, textured side down. Take an inch or two of the bottom end and fold it to the right at a 90 degree (right) angle so the strip looks like an "L" shape. Take the top of the "L", the vertical piece, and fold it down to the right at a 90 degree (right) angle, making sure the strips are parallel, but not overlapping (this creates a seam). Now the strip resembles an arrow, pointed on the left end. Turn the strip over. At the pointed end, there will now be a small triangle. Cut the tails off the bottom of the triangle. When adhering the photo corner, be sure that the seam is on the back side of the photo. Repeat three more times.

Time to construct: 2 hours
