Description & Details
The Tim Holtz Design Ruler is a clear ruler with a tapered acrylic straight edge on one side for measuring lengths and drawing lines and a metal straight edge on the other side for accurate cutting. In between is a grid, two sets of measurements and holes for piercing. The grid is measured in quarter inches. The holes are spaced 1/8 of an inch apart. The ruler is lightweight and sturdy.

The ruler can be used similarly to most rulers because it goes from 0-12 inches. It is marked for each 1/2",1/4" and 1/8" increments. Unlike most traditional rulers it does not have some measurements such as 1/16" and 9/16". I didn't find that to be a real drawback, though. The measurements are accurate. One set of numbers features a center design where 0 is in the middle of the ruler and measurements are placed outward in each direction from the center. The center design is helpful for centering things on the scrapbook pages and other projects.

The grid design allows the ruler to be lined up correctly. Papercrafters often have a hard time knowing when the ruler is straight. This Design Ruler solves that problem. The grid lines provide a way to make sure it is straight before drawing a line.

The metal edge can be used to line up a cut with a craft knife. Always use a glass mat or self-healing mat when using a craft knife. The ruler has small holes 1/8" apart. By using a piercing tool you can create holes in paper underneath it. It pierces well with a variety of piercing tools, even a thumbtack.

All in all, the Tim Holtz Design Rulers is a useful ruler than combines the features of several rulers into one. It is perfect for scrapbookers, cardmakers and other papercrafters.

    Best Ruler Ever

As soon as I heard about this ruler I knew I needed to buy it. The Tim Holtz design ruler has every feature you want in a ruler plus some! It is a clear ruler, which allows you to see your project under it, yet it has a metal edge, which allows you to use a knife to cut straight lines along it. On one side of the ruler it has ordinary measurements and the other side is a centering tool. Even more amazingly, there are holes along one edge of the ruler that allows you to punch holes in your paper for sewing! It is also affordable, making it a must have!

    You'll Only Need One Ruler

I've had three different rulers for years; one metal, a second for centering and a third with holes for punching (for stitching). This one simple ruler replaces them all; is clear and has grid lines for optimal placement of lines and holes. It is ideal for those who have totes and need to be mindful of space limitations. Granted, a ruler doesn't take up lots of space in a tote, but only having to remember where one ruler is makes life easier. A must have.

    Amazing Tool!

Finally something o make our lives easier and better. This ruler is simply awesome. Finding the center of the page has never been easier. I was a math major in college and I always thought I was pretty good, well this ruler makes my life so much better. No more measuring and dividing i in half to find out that what I thought was the center, isn't. With this basic tool, the center is always at your finger tips. I ordered a second one for my husband tool box. Simply love it!

    great ruler!!!

I purchased this ruler after watching a video eith Tim Holtz demonstrating it. It is absolutely the best! I like the fact the it has a center point. This is helpful you need to mat photos. There are also holes for stitching spaced along one edge of the ruler. YOu can evenly pierce holes as far apart as you would like. I love the fact that the ruler is clear. It make it easier to see the project you are working on. I give this a thumbs up!!!

  • Great Ruler from Tim Holtz Idea-ology!!!!

I've been watching Tim Holtz use this ruler from when it first came out, and I didn't think I needed it because I had so many rulers already from other companies!!!1 So I finally broke down and went to purchase it!!! Well!!! I love, love, love this ruler now!!!! Tim Holtz has done it again, what can I say!!!! It has zero centering for centering any embellishment you have on a 12x12 page or any size paper layout!!! And for those who want to stitch without using your sewing machine, it has holes where you can stitch very close together or very far apart or anywhere in between!!!!!! And if you want to use your craft knife to cut out lines or paper it has a metal on the ruler so when you cut with your craft knife it doesn't ruin your ruler!!!!!You have to have this tool!!!!!!

    THE Ruler to Own

This tool is clear and its zero point is at the very end of the ruler; so you can measure using both the long and short sides of the ruler. Place the ruler on top of the paper and measure using the ruler's gridlines.

    Example 1:
Place the ruler horizontally on a card with one of the ruler's horizontal lines at the bottom of the card. The top of the ruler will be straight. Line up letters, smaller panels, or stamps.

    Example 2:
Easily cut a triangle from the end of a paper strip to make a "flag." Place the end of the ruler 1/4" on top of the end of the strip (Use the gridlines). Draw a line across the end of the ruler. Make a mark at the midpoint. Draw a line from the midpoint to each corner. Cut.

This is the best ruler I've ever owned. I have two in case I temporarily misplace one of them. I also use these rulers in the card classes I teach.

    A million uses

Well that might be an exageration but this ruler is the bomb diggity. It's sturdy enough that you can use it to tear paper, clear so you can see precisely what you are working on and where you are on your project. The numbers and lines are clear and easy to read. There are also punch holes which are GREAT! 12 inches of punch holes. It makes doing a straight line of almost any size easy peasy.

Best money I ever spent on a tool.

    Tim Holtz Ruler

I too didn't think I needed another ruler. But I saw it at a T!m Holtz class and thought ok. Get it. Why? Because my x-acto started cutting my metal ruler AND the plastic one has a slight metal edge. No more cutting of the ruler, as opposed to paper etc

I haven't used the wholes since the book class but I liked them and it's so much easier than eyeballing it.

I plan to buy another one for another area of my studio.

  • Best Ruler Ever!

I love this ruler! It has so many uses! It's very easy to read and the fact that it is see through is fantastic. The metal edge makes it very easy to use a craft knife and cut right up against the ruler. The evenly spaced holes are excellant for spacing brads, eyelets, or bling. You can also use the holes to mark faux or real stitching. It also makes centering things a breeze. I don't know how I ever managed without it!
