It is better to think of these as crayons rather than markers - they have the consistency of cray-pas that I remember from grade school art class. The tip is thick, so they aren't good for fine-tip writing needs. But the colors are bright and gorgeous and do look like chalk on chalkboard surfaces. They are wax-like, so they go on very smooth, and not messy on your hands like regular chalk. They could be great for someone with a chalk allergy since they don't create dust.
